Our research is driven by our ambition to understand the development of drug dependence, long term effects of chronic drug abuse on neuropharmacology as well as how other neurological disorders affect the progression of drug dependence. The goal is to develop new pharmaceuticals that may assist in treating drug dependence. I personally believe strongly in reaching out to people outside of the university and to educate them about the research that is being conducted in our lab and in this field of research in general.
We would be able to visit your school/business/association to educate staff/students about therapeutic opioid use and drug/alcohol addiction research. We are able to accommodate a couple of highly motivated students to visit the lab and have them observe research in an academic laboratory.

Currently I help 1st year pharmacy students prepare presentations on the risks of drug use for 6th graders at a local elementary school. I also maintain a selective record of news articles that deal with alcohol and opioid abuse. These articles can form the basis of discussion in classrooms on these topics, or can be used for students to create presentations on substance abuse. I have also presented information about the pharmacology and risks associated with legal and illegal substances of abuse to the Pharmacy Women for Purdue association, a Purdue wide 'Lunch and Learn session', an continued education session for a Indianapolis dentist practice and to the college of Pharmacy Advisory board.
